Maintenance Apprenticeship

During an exceptional 44 month training programme, in partnership with Coleg Cambria, you will learn and develop the technical skills & theory to become a member of our outstanding maintenance team. A Maintenance team member at Toyota, will maintain the plant’s machinery and equipment, while improving processes to minimise disruption to the production lines. On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be working right at the heart of our operations, as a valued member of our dedicated maintenance team with the opportunity to develop and broaden your skills in this most demanding and fast-moving of automotive environments.

During the programme you will train in our onsite Technical Training & Innovation Facility. You will learn skills such as welding, electrical installation, technical drawing and PLC programming, through a mix of classroom based and hands on work.

You will work towards an industry recognised Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma. Upon successful completion of the programme you are guaranteed a permanent position at Toyota as a maintenance team member working as a multiskilled maintenance technician.

About the programme

Training onsite and in college, you will learn skills such as fabrication, electrical installation, technical drawing, PLC programming and robotics, through a mix of classroom based and hands on work.

  • For the first 22 months (Stage 1), you will train at Coleg Cambria Deeside (4 days / week), gaining practical experience in a variety of skill areas and learning the technical theory behind them.
  • You will then come to Toyota every Friday morning, to consolidate your learning.
  • Your final 22 months (Stage 2), will be spent in a hands-on role, learning how to practically apply and develop your new skills in a real-work environment at the Engine Plant. You will work alongside and be supported by our highly skilled maintenance team.

Further offsite activities will develop teamwork, communication, and planning through an outward bound residential and a community volunteering project

The apprenticeship contains 3 mandatory embedded qualifications which are certificated during the apprenticeship training period. A Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard is awarded by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education on completion of End Point Assessment.

Who do we look for?

We look for people who are passionate about maintenance and innovative technology. People who enjoy problem solving and getting hands on in their work, believing there is always a better way! You should be able to engage with and enjoy the theoretical side of the course, which has a maths and science base.

To be eligible to apply you must have or be expecting a minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above including Maths, English Language and two other subjects.

Salary and Benefits

Starting Salary: £15,778 rising with annual increments to £39,444 upon successful completion of the 44 month scheme

There will be two plant shutdowns each year (a fortnight in August and a week at Christmas) and you will be required to take holiday at these times. You will then be able to use your remaining holiday entitlement at your discretion provided this is authorised by your Supervisor.

A free workwear allowance is provided to all new Members. Options are also available to purchase additional items at a discounted rate should this be required.
