How do our partner company apprenticeships work?
Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK Ltd works in partnership with suppliers and local engineering firms to offer a unique apprenticeship experience. You will be employed from the beginning by a maintenance firm ('home company'), but will train within our Apprentice Development Centre, based at Toyota UK in Derbyshire.
Our partner company apprenticeships are 44 months long. For the first two years of the apprenticeship, you will mainly train at Toyota, with some placement weeks within your home company. In your final two years, you will be based at your home company with some occasional training at Toyota. During the programme you will work towards an industry recognised Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma.
What will you do?
During your apprenticeship you will train in our Apprentice Development Centre. Our world leading trainers will support and guide you as you learn skills in welding, machining, hand tool use, electronics, robotics, and much more. You will work alongside our Toyota apprentices and develop your teamwork, communication and planning skills through an outward bound week.
We will ensure that you fully understand your future job and what working life is like in a busy manufacturing and engineering environment. Before you start the main technical skills training, you will spend time on site at your home company, learning about their business and getting to know your new colleagues. You will be given support at all times through the training scheme by experienced Toyota Trainers and colleagues from your home company.
- Stage 1: This 22 month period includes basic engineering theory training, basic practical skills training, a personal development period and placement weeks at your home company. It also covers subjects such as electricity, electronics, welding, machining, control systems and hydraulics - all the theory and practical skills that you need to commence your career in engineering.
- Stage 2: You willl spend your final 22 months in a maintenance position, practically learning how to apply your new skills and how to safely work at your home company.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will have gained the skills, industry recognised qualifications and experience needed to become a valued member of your chosen partner company's maintenance team. Working right at the heart of their operation, your future will be whatever you choose to make it.
To be eligible to apply you must have or be expecting a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above, including Maths, Science and English.
