How do our Partner Company apprenticeships work?
Toyota Manufacturing UK and Burton & South Derbyshire College work in partnership with suppliers and local organisations to offer a unique apprenticeship experience. You will be employed from the beginning by a local organisation (“Partner Company”).
The Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship typically lasts between 42 to 48 months. During the earlier phase of the programme, training is delivered by specialist BSDC and TMUK staff at the purpose-built Technical Skills Development Centre. Alongside this, your employer will host planned block weeks where Apprentices will apply their learning. In the later phase, Apprentices are primarily placed with their employers.
During the programme you will work towards an industry recognised Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma!
What will you do?
During your apprenticeship you will train in our Technical Skills Development Centre. Our world leading trainers will support and guide you as you learn skills in welding, machining, hand tool use, electronics, robotics, and much more. You will work alongside our Toyota apprentices and develop your teamwork, communication and planning skills through an outward-bound week.
We will ensure that you fully understand your future job and what working life is like in a busy manufacturing and engineering environment. Before you start the main technical skills training, you will spend time on site at your home company, learning about their business and getting to know your new colleagues. You will be given support at all times through the training scheme by experienced Toyota Trainers and colleagues from your home company.
Over the course of the programme, you will cover various modules including basic engineering theory training, basic practical skills training, a personal development period. It also covers subjects such as electricity, electronics, welding, machining, control systems and hydraulics - all the theory and practical skills that you need to commence your career in engineering. You will spend time both training at Toyota Manufacturing UK and learning on the job with your home company.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will have gained the skills, industry recognised qualifications and experience needed to become a valued member of your chosen partner company's maintenance team. Working right at the heart of their operation, your future will be whatever you choose to make it.
