As an Automotive Production Apprentice, you will learn to carry out work safely and effectively, meeting quality standards within a demanding and fast-paced environment.  You will develop into a multi-skilled operator through process ownership carrying out manufacturing activities within a variety of shops before joining our experienced Team Members on the production line

The Apprenticeship is a 12 month programme which will commence September 2020

What will I do?

The 12 month Automotive Production Apprenticeship will primarily be based at our manufacturing site in Burnaston. You will spend time working alongside our highly trained Manufacturing team as well as undertaking classroom and off-the-job hand-skills training. There will also be periods of time spent away from site whilst you undertake further specific training and development activities. For off-site training transport will be provided.

What will I gain?

After completing your 12 month Lean Manufacturing Apprenticeship (NVQ Level 2), you will gain a Level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing. You will then be placed into one of the 7 production areas within the factory, this could be Press, Weld, Paint, Plastics, Assembly or Quality Assurance. From here, you will be a permanent Team Member within Toyota Manufacturing UK, working on a faced-paced production line, responsible for fitting parts to the vehicle every 80 seconds!

Your Development at Toyota Manufacturing UK

Starting salary of £13,154 rising to £22,295 upon completion with a range of benefits including discount tickets on days out, holidays and football matches.

Where overtime is worked, this will attract a payment as follows:
Mon-Fri - Time and one third for first 2 hours, time and one half thereafter
Saturday - Time and one half
Sunday - Double time

There will be two plant shutdowns each year (a fortnight in August and a week at Christmas) and you will be required to take holiday at these times.
You will then be able to use your remaining holiday entitlement at your discretion provided this is authorised by your Supervisor.

A free workwear allowance is provided to all new Members. Options are also available to purchase additional items at a discounted rate should this be required.

· You will receive practical skills training, a personal development period and placement weeks within the Toyota Plant’s various shops at Burnaston.

· You will also cover the theory and practical skills that you need to commence your career.

· Once the technical skills are embedded, you will be placed in a production team within Toyota, practically learning how to apply your new skills and how to safely operate.

· During this stage, you will also undertake a number of job-relevant technical skills courses on specific items of equipment.

· Interested in a career in manufacturing.

· Passionate about working with your hands and solving problems.

· Excited about working with the latest high tech computerised equipment.

· Able to show us that you can work well as part of a team.

· Willing to be patient and show outstanding attention to detail.

· Willing to complete repetitive work within a fast-paced environement, contributing to building a car every 80 seconds

There are no minimum requirements.

· You will gain a level 2 diploma in Lean Manufacturing.

· At Toyota, we believe we should develop you in a range of personal skills as well as technical skills.

· Our training will develop your teamwork, communication and planning skills through a series of activities.

· You will also complete several Personal Development training courses, such as presentation skills and communication.

· For the right people, there may be the opportunity to study for further qualifications.  There also may be the opportunity to progress into a Team Leader or Group Leader role in the future.

· You will be learning from the best in the industry! With the skills from our Toyota Trainers, you will learn about all aspects of automotive manufacturing.

· We will ensure that you fully understand your future job and what working life is like in a busy manufacturing environment.

· Before you start the main skills training, you will spend time on site at Toyota learning about their business and getting to know your new colleagues.

· You will be given support at all times through the training scheme by experienced Toyota Trainers and mentors.

· You will have regular meetings where we will review your progress and give you feedback on your performance.

· Technical knowledge and hand-skill alone is not enough to become excellent at your job, therefore we include personal development and the opportunity to practically improve your skills throughout the training programme.

· Typically the first Monday in September each year.

· You will be responsible for your daily transport to Toyota. Unfortunately public transport is not available to the Toyota site.

· Unfortunately, we can only accept applications for our apprenticeship programme from candidates who are legally entitled to work in the UK indefinitely.
