Development
Your Development at Toyota Manufacturing UK
Toyota Manufacturing UK is committed to provide all members with continuous development opportunities to learn new skills. Development is an ongoing process and a fundamental part of working life at Toyota Manufacturing UK.
For example, your development will include the following elements:
A 1 ½ day Introductory course where you can learn more about Toyota’s way of working.
A week long generic and shop specific Induction in the shop you are placed.
This is split into:
- Knowledge eg: Health & Safety issues.
- Understanding How to work safely and basic Toyota Production System (TPS) understanding.
- Skills - where through process simulation a quality confirmation of your work is undertaken.
You will then commence your 4 week process training where you will learn your primary process. The Primary process expert will support you through this activity.
Finally, you will then be provided with an ongoing individual development plan which will include courses such as Kaizen and process diagnostics.
Promotion Opportunities
As your skills, knowledge and experience grow, you could be recognised within your occupational class by rank promotion opportunities. If you are promoted, then naturally a higher level of contribution is expected with each promotion.
At Toyota Manufacturing UK we have a flat organisation structure. Promotion is based on the availablitity of a suitable vacancy. Candidates must display consistently high performance over a number of years. Members who are considered as suitable to promote to a team leader position will be required to complete an intensive development programme which will develop their skills and allow evaluation of their suitability for the position.
