- What are the hours of work?
Toyota Manufacturing UK operates a 39-hour working week. In maintenance, the majority of our shops work a 3-shift pattern: a week of days, a week of afternoons, followed by a week of nights. Start and finish times vary slightly in each shop but are roughly as follows:
Days: 0600 - 1418
Afternoons: 1200 - 2018
Nights: 2000 - 0418
At Deeside we operate a 24/7 pattern where a shift begins at 06:00hrs and finishes at 18:00hrs
Back to top - What are the lunch breaks?
Lunch breaks are 30 minutes.
Back to top - Will there be opportunities for overtime?
There will be a requirement for overtime. Typically maintenance members may be required to work one or two weekends each month. During the week, there will also be a requirement to stay at the end of shift to support any daily production or maintenance issues.
Back to top - Will I have to provide my own tools?
No, all tools required to do the job will be provided for you.
Back to top - Will there be an opportunity to see the environment prior to starting?
Yes, we provide an opportunity to visit a couple of the maintenance areas when you attend the assesment centre. You will visit the shops and be introduced to the section manager/group leader who will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Back to top - What area of the plant will I work in?
Our maintenance teams support the production lines in several ‘shops’, from: Press, Weld, Paint, Assembly, Plastics and Facilities. If you are successful in the recruitment process, you will be placed appropriately into a position based on the recommendation of your interviewers. This recommendation will take into account your past experience, as well as information gained during the selection process, so we can make the best use of your skills.
Back to top - Will there be an opportunity to move between different shops?
Transfers happen occasionally where there is a business need. The equipment in each shop can be very different and it can take many years for our maintenance Members to build thorough knowledge of that specific equipment. Normally, once you are placed into an area this tends to be where your skills and knowledge will be developed further.
Back to top - What is the supervisory structure?
Please see the organisation structure.
Team members report to a team leader who normally has responsibility for 5 team members. The team leader reports to a group leader who normally has responsibility for around 10 team members and 2 team leaders. Group leaders report to a section manager who has responsibility for all the maintenance members in the shop.
Back to top - If offered a position, would I go straight onto shifts?
Predominantly, maintenance members are placed on shifts, though you may be on days initially for a number of weeks in order to conduct some training prior to being placed into your work group.
Back to top - Will I always work shifts?
There are sometimes opportunities for maintenance members to work in projects for a period of time, which can be on day shift. This is where members may use their skills and experience to work on new models/projects which may be introduced in the future.
Back to top - Are there opportunities to travel to Japan for training?
Opportunities occasionally arise for team members to obtain training in Japan but this is usually for team leaders and above.
Back to top - If I require a work permit or I am dependent on another person’s work permit (eg spouse) to work in the UK, am I eligible to apply for the maintenance team member role?
Most of our vacancies are unlikely to attract a work permit. Applications from candidates who require a permit to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable applicants.
Back to top - Can I apply by calling you?
Unfortunately not, we do ask that you make an application on-line. However, if you are experiencing any problems with applying on-line, please e-mail recruitment@toyotauk.com with your query. This e-mail address is monitored regularly.
Back to top - How long will it take me to apply online?
To register your details and create your CV should take approximately 1 hour.
Back to top - Will I be able to change or update my application once it has been submitted?
Once you submit your online application, you will not be able to edit or revise your application. You will only be able to update your account information (e-mail, name, telephone no. etc) by returning to the website and logging in.
Back to top - When will I hear back from you regarding my application?
After submitting your online application, you will hear back from us to confirm receipt of your application within 2 working days. If you are successful at this stage, you will subsequently be invited to the first stage of the recruitment process, which will be a test session held at either our Burnaston or Deeside facility.
Back to top - What should I wear to my interview?
For the initial test session the dress code is casual. You will be seated for most of the time, so you need to wear something in which you are comfortable. The second stage, which is the assessment centre, will involve two production simulation exercises, which are physical, so again casual dress is required. Jeans, t-shirt, and trainers are acceptable. For the final interview, formal dress is required, as you will be interviewed by a maintenance section manager and an HR professional. Should you be required to conduct a medical, appropriate dress should be worn eg: T-shirt, trainers, track suit bottoms for example.
