Your Development at Toyota Manufacturing UK

We place great emphasis on learning by doing. Our on the job training is structured and thorough.

Your 18-month development programme will commence with an introduction to Toyota which will involve a 5 day induction held at the Burnaston Plant.

You will also participate in eight weeks line training in a Production shop as part of the intial three-month induction. We won’t pretend otherwise, during this time on-line you will be doing a repetitive and physical job as well as following a rotating shift pattern, but the skills and experience you develop will prove invaluable to you.

Your on the job training will continue throughout the 18-months and will be supplemented by off the job courses designed to increase your skills and knowledge and allow you to perform your role effectively.

These courses range from Toyota specific skills such as Problem Solving, Plan-Do-Check-Action and Report writing to developing ‘soft’ skills in Presentation and Communication Skills, Personal Planning and Team Working.

There will also be opportunities for a secondment to an area beyond your chosen specialisation, which will broaden your understanding further.

During the 18-month training period, you will be expected to write reports detailing practical aspects of your role using some of the Toyota philosophies: such as PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Action) and Problem Solving. You will then be expected to present these to Senior Management.

The Graduate Development Programme is assessed and requires a certain standard to be attained prior to progression to a Specialist or Engineer position which is achieved at the end of the programme.
