A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered by partner companies.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK Ltd is working in partnership with suppliers and local engineering firms to bring you an apprenticeship like no other. It means that you will be employed by an engineering firm ('home company') but will train within our Apprentice Development Centre, on-site at Toyota UK, learning from the best in the industry.

For the first two years of the apprenticeship, you will mainly train at Toyota with some placement weeks within your home company.

The final two years you will be mainly based at your home company with some occasional training at Toyota.

  • Stage 1. This is a 22 month period which includes basic engineering theory training, basic practical skills training, a personal development period and placement weeks within Toyota.
It also covers subjects such as electricity, electronics, welding, machining, control systems and hydraulics - in short, all the theory and practical skills that you need to commence your career in maintenance. You will need to study hard during this period to ensure you are successful.
  • Stage 2. 22 months spent in a maintenance team within Toyota, practically learning how to apply your new skills and how to safely maintain our plant and systems. During this stage you will also undertake a number of higher level technical skills courses on specific items of equipment.
  • Interested in a career in maintenance and engineering.
  • Passionate about working with your hands and solving problems.
  • Excited about working with the latest high tech computerised equipment.
  • Able to show us that you can work well as part of a team.
  • Willing to be patient and show outstanding attention to detail.
  • Willing to study hard on one of the industry's most advance Apprenticeship Schemes.

To be eligible to apply you must possess or be anticipating a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grade 'C' or above including Maths, English and Science.

  • During stage 1 of the programme you will gain an NVQ Level 2 in 'Performing Manufacturing Operations' and a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering.
  • During stage 2 onward of the programme you will gain Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ in Engineering and a Level 3 technical certificate.
  • For the right person, there may also be opportunity to undertake a Level 4 qualification and possibly move on to an engineering related degree programme.

At Toyota we believe that we should develop you in a range of personal skills as well as technical skills. Our offsite experiential training takes place during the first year of your apprenticeship and will develop your teamwork, communication and planning skills through a series of outdoor activities, for example, rafting, canoeing, climbing and/or a mountain expedition.

You will also complete several Personal Development training courses, such as presentation skills, team working and communication.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a valued member of the Maintenance & Engineering Team within your home company. Thereafter your progression is based on your individual performance.

For the right people, there may be opportunity to study for further qualifications, such as an engineering related degree.

You will be learning from the best in the industry! With the combination of skills from our Toyota Trainers and the expertise from your home company, you will learn about all aspects of engineering and maintenance.

We will ensure that you fully understand your future job and what working life is like in a busy manufacturing and engineering environment. Before you start the main technical skills training, you will spend time on site at your home company, learning about their business and getting to know your new colleagues. You will be given support at all times through the training scheme by experienced Toyota Trainers and colleagues from your home company. You will have regular meetings where we will review your progress and give you feedback on your performance.

'Classroom' technical knowledge and skill alone is not enough to become excellent at your job, therefore we include personal development and the opportunity to practically improve your skills throughout the training programme.

Unfortunately public transport is not available to the Toyota site but where possible, we will support your transport to the site via 'lift share' or mini bus. This is not guaranteed however and therefore will be discussed with you at interview stage.

Unfortunately, we can only accept applications for our Maintenance Apprenticeship programme from candidates who are legally entitled to work in the UK.
