The 44 months apprenticeship training programme commences in September. On joining you will commence ‘Year 0’ and begin an 8 month familiarisation. The content for Year 0 is as follows:

• TMUK and College Inductions
• 1 week ‘Outward Bound’ training, focussing on Toyota way
• 12 weeks safety, hand skills and basic engineering training
• Three 7 week placements, 2 in production, 1 in maintenance.

Year 0 qualifications:

• NVQ 2 ‘Performing Manufacturing Operations’
• Level 2 technical certificate (Diploma in Engineering)

In May of the following year you will begin one year off job training at the new ‘Toyota Academy’ in Nottingham:-

Year 1 content:-

Fundamental skills training in all aspects of maintenance engineering:

• Electrical / Electronics :
DC and AC electricity, Control systems, PLC’s, Safety systems
• Mechanical :
Hand skills, machining, welding, drive systems, mechanisms, engineering drawing
• Fluid Power :
Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems
• Personal Skills :
Toyota Way, Problem solving, Communication skills, Computing

Year 1 qualifications:

• NVQ 2 ‘Performing Engineering Operations’
• Level 3 technical certificate (Engineering maintenance)

The last two years are spent on the job in maintenance departments but also include short, higher level department specific technical skills.

Year 2/3 qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 - Engineering maintenance
